Diversity and Inclusion

The only thing that matters is your work ethic.

Power North is dedicated to diversity and inclusion.

You can be sure when you work with a Power North contractor, you’ll be hiring a team full of diversity and inclusion. Hiring this way isn’t just the right thing to do but it also benefits everybody overall.

According to Rise Up 4 Equity:

  • Racially and ethnically diverse teams are 35% more likely to perform better
  • Gender-diverse teams are 15% more likely to have higher performance
  • Diverse teams are 87% better at making decisions
  • Inclusive companies are 1.7 times more innovative

When you gather people from all different backgrounds and cultures, you improve and grow. This leads to a more well-rounded and open-minded team. We don’t just serve one sect of people, we serve the community. Therefore, our workforce must reflect that. We make it a priority to keep diversity and inclusion top of mind while hiring and recruiting apprentices. We don’t care where you’re from, what your gender is, or what you look like, if you’re a hard worker and can get the job done safe and right, we want you on our team. Our goal is to put people to work.

Every industry should hire diverse teams. But for electrical contractors it’s extremely important. Why? Because our line of work is one of the most non diverse.  A whopping 88% of electricians are white and only 20% are women or non caucasian. If we want to build the most impactful workforce, we need to welcome on new members from every walk of life, every background, and every ethnicity. There’s room for all of us in this field. Especially since job demands are poised to grow 8% by 2029.  If we don’t build a more inclusive space for workers, we’ll be flailing and failing our ethics.

The National Electrical Contractors Association made diversity a major priority in December 2020. It formed a DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) task force to “create a long-term cultural shift and a more inclusive electrical industry through education, awareness and open dialogue.” This work has led to a ton of resources from trainings to webinars and classes. Inclusion in our industry isn’t going to happen instantly. It will take work by all of us and a continued dedication to hiring a diverse team. The more open we are about our diversity goals, the better off our industry will be. Let’s all keep up the good work and bring on the next great generation of electricians.
