Apprenticeships play a crucial role in preparing people for great careers in the electrical industry. The IBEW/NECA Twin Ports Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee (JATC) has long been committed to providing comprehensive training and education to aspiring electricians. By combining on-the-job training with classroom instruction, apprenticeships offer an invaluable learning experience. We’re proud to see another group of promising professionals graduate from our apprenticeship program.
Apprenticeship Benefits
One of the key benefits of an electrician apprenticeship is the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a real-world work environment. Whether it’s residential or commercial, apprentices work alongside seasoned professionals, honing their skills and applying theoretical knowledge to real situations. This immersive learning approach allows them to develop a deep understanding of the electrical trade and build a strong foundation for their future careers. They are also sponsored by companies in the industry so students do not need to go into debt to land a lucrative job.
Apprentice Program
Our 5-year Inside Wireman training program is built to produce the best journeymen. This course provided by the Electrical Training ALLIANCE and set by the State of Minnesota requires 8,000 hours of job training and 900 hours in the classroom. Every person who finishes this program comes out built for a successful career with great benefits and good pay.
Mentorship and Guidance
Throughout their apprenticeship journey, students receive guidance and mentorship from experienced instructors like Brian Maruska and Tom Jackson. All of our instructors play a vital role in shaping the apprentices’ skills. They continue to share industry insights and best practices. Their commitment to their student’s success is easy to see and has left a lasting impact on recent graduates.
Celebrating the 2023 Class
In May 2023, the JATC gathered at the Boat Club in Duluth to celebrate the 2023 graduating class. The graduation dinner provided a platform to recognize the outstanding achievements of the apprentices. Laura Hamel’s exceptional performance earned her multiple accolades, including the Top Overall Apprentice title, the Klein Tools Outstanding Graduate Award, and the Southwire Top Gun Award. Her hard work, dedication, and commitment to excellence serve as an inspiration to her fellow apprentices and future generations of electricians.
While Laura Hamel’s accomplishments stood out, every graduate deserves recognition for their commitment and perseverance throughout the apprenticeship program. We’re proud to introduce the 2023 graduating class.
